The interior of a solicitor's office. On the left a dandified solicitor, wearing a frilled neckcloth, black satin breeches and gold buckled shoes, sits at his high desk, a writ in one hand, pointing a quill pen at two rough, loutish bailiffs. One bailiffs holds a handful of bills and carries a cudgel under one arm. In the background a view of the Thames is visible through the window of an elegant salon. Writs tumble off a table in the foreground, a Bill of Costs 1793 is pinned to the wall and lawbooks fill a bookcase on the right.
